Microsoft has now permanently lowered the annual fee for Windows Phone development.
During the summer, developers had been offered a cut down price of $19 to sign up to the Windows Phone Dev Centre. The cost for UK developers is £15.
Microsoft says the promotion was successful and so the team will be making the lowered price permanent in future. The annual subscription fee previously stood at $99 a year.
The Windows Dev Centre offers developers access to tools, code samples, marketing tips, guidelines and certification requirements and the ability to submit apps to the store.
The reduction is clearly part of a strategy by Microsoft to combat complaints that takeup of Windows Phone is being hampered by their being fewer apps available to users, and to incentivise app developers to produce more.
