Windows Phone has at last acquired an Instagram app – but it’s from French app developer Rudy Huyn, not from Instagram itself. The app was originally named 6tagram but has been renamed 6tag for Windows Phone because Instagram told users of its API not to use the words insta or gram.
6tag includes most of the Instagram features found on the official iOS and Android versions. 6tag provides access to the original filters found in Instagram, video uploads, and the linear and radial blur effects. Huyn has also provided support for sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, VK, and Foursquare.
6tag is free to download from the Windows app store (see below) and has already attracted more than 600 five-star reviews.
Instagram itself has been slow to release an app. Microsoft is said to have built an Instagram app for Windows Phone but has not released it. It appears that both may now have missed the boat.
You can download 6tag from the Windows Phone app store here.
